At Futures, we’re always looking for ways we can support our local communities as well as our customers. A key part of this is our work experience programme, offered in collaboration with local schools to inspire the next generation of housing professionals. And, of course, the young people we work with often inspire us too!

In July this year, we invited year 10 Reece and his classmates for some work experience. He was interested in plumbing, and attended several jobs with Thomas, one of our experienced operatives.

“Reece has a good attitude, uses his own initiative and is always paying attention.”

His work experience sparked a keen interest in plumbing, and Reece contacted our team to ask if he could continue working with Thomas to get as much experience as possible – even sacrificing a day a week of his summer holidays to get out in the van and learning first-hand about the job and the skills he’d need to succeed.

“He’s really progressed… I’ve noticed he’s really grown in confidence and come out of his shell.”

Thomas has been really impressed with Reece, who wants to find a plumbing apprenticeship after school. Even now, he’s making plans to spend some of his October half term with us and develop his skills even further. We’re excited to see Reece’s career develop and proud that we could help him on his first steps into plumbing.
