Grass Cutting

An area four times the size of London’s 02 arena is mown each year by Futures Greenscape.

The social enterprise, which is part of Midlands-based landlord Futures Housing Group, manages all of the green spaces owned by the Group.

A team of just 12, split across Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, spends seven months of year mowing communal areas to keep them neat and tidy – that’s 365,065 square metres of grass.

Kevin Boocock, Futures Greenscape Operations Manager, said: “As we reach the end of the grass cutting season it’s great to look back at the amount of ground our team covers.

“When Futures Greenscape was launched in 2011 we had just six employees, but since then we’ve grown to provide more services and cover greater areas.”

With more than 44,000 square metres of grass in Daventry and 321,000 around Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, the team completes this round-trip ten times from April to November.

The last cut of the year is currently being completed, before the Greenscape teams move their attention to winter maintenance.

Futures Greenscape delivers a range of other services including painting and decorating, void clearances, cleaning, estate management and handyman services.

Launched in 2011 with nine members of staff, the social enterprise has grown to employing 46 permanent employees, along with seasonal workers.
