Conference isn’t any old chestnut

More than 30 residents have proved giving feedback comes naturally, thanks to a family-fun event at a nearby woodland discovery centre.

Futures Homescape staff invited the families to visit nature venue Conkers, near Swadlincote, to enjoy a day of fun and to give feedback about their landlord, homes and services.

This years’ free Tenants’ Conference saw children enjoy art and crafts, shelter-building and a nature trail, while their parents and grandparents took part in speed-dating style consultations.

The sessions included a look at social media, to better understand how residents would like to be contacted in the future and how the organisation can further develop the existing repairs service. Those attending then spent the afternoon enjoying the woodland, interactive exhibits and Enchanted Forest.

Sarah Whattam, community development manager, said: “The aim of our tenants’ conference is to give people who might not otherwise have the time the chance to tell us their views on what we do. By holding a family day in half-term we can get valued feedback, and give residents a free event in return.

“The sessions proved really useful, and we look forward to putting some of the new ideas into action over the coming months.”

Since last years’ event held at Twycross Zoo, a greetings card designed by local children welcoming tenants to their new home and courses on basic IT skills have been introduced.
