Youngsters welcome neighbours with new greetings cards

Competition winners with their welcome cards

Budding designers in Amber Valley are helping to make new tenants feel more at home after being named the winners of a greeting card competition.

Charlotte Watson-Young, aged seven, and Nadine Falconbridge, aged 10, have had their designs transformed into official ‘new home’ cards by Amber Valley Housing.

Children of tenants entered the competition after they were asked to create a card for residents who have just moved home.

New tenants will receive the cards as part of a welcome bag packed with information on their new home and kitchen essentials, provided in partnership with Nisa in Leabrooks.

Designed with help from existing tenants, it is hoped the bags and greetings cards will make the first few days of moving more comfortable and create a friendly and welcoming environment.

The welcome package is part of a wider range of services available from Amber Valley Housing, with extra support available to older or vulnerable tenants.

Lisa Redfern, Home Options Manager at Amber Valley Housing, said: “Moving house can be quite daunting as new tenants get to grips with their new home, and sometimes a new area too.

“We want to make that process as easy as possible, and working with our existing tenants has given us a real insight into what we can do to help.

“It’s clear that our younger tenants have put a lot of thought and care into designing these cards. We’d like to thank everyone who entered and congratulate the winners on their creativity.”
