Located in Barby, near Daventry, the park has been backed by funding from Daventry and District Housing (DDH), Barby and Onley Parish Council, Daventry District Council, and local charity Townlands.
With limited public transport and situated in a rural location, the skating enthusiasts would have previously needed a car to access skateparks in villages nearby.
Ciara McMillan, community and partnership manager at Daventry and District Housing, said: “We want to encourage young people to have a say on the important issues where they live, and support them in making a positive impact on their local community.
“We’d like to congratulate the group on creating a place where they can get to grips with a sport they enjoy and put their energy into something positive.”
Tenant Bryan Pawley is a member of the community projects group, which helps to decide where to allocate grants from the housing association’s environmental improvement budget. He said: “Young people living in rural locations often feel isolated and far away from the kind of recreational facilities others take for granted.
“It was clear that the park would make a significant difference to the community, and we are pleased to have been able to help turn the idea into reality.”
