Residents from Weedon and Flore have been meeting their neighbours at a community event designed to promote healthy lifestyles.
More than 50 people attended the healthy living open day at Weedon Bec Village Hall, hosted by Daventry & District Housing’s Rural Tenants’ Group with funding from Daventry District Council.
Volunteers welcomed visitors with refreshments and fresh strawberries, and held a charity raffle – with all proceeds going to Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.
Younger visitors got active with fun inflatables including a bouncy castle, speedcage, surf board and gladiator game, plus sports games on the Nintendo Wii.
The event saw the winners of a healthy poster competition run in partnership with Weedon Bec Primary School presented with their prizes, donated by Lovell.
Millie Sanders picked up first prize of a bike, with Erin O’Toole scooping a scooter for second prize and Lilly Oliff awarded a pair of roller skates for third.
Display stands offered information on local sports groups and facilities, while the DDH Youth Board were on hand to talk to younger visitors about the issues that matter to them.
The Rural Tenants’ Group is open to all DDH tenants living in local villages and meets in different locations around the district bi-monthly to feedback on services and discuss local issues.
Sarah Sims, community development officer at Daventry and District Housing, said: “We were really keen to support the Rural Tenants’ Group in running their first community event, and healthy living is a theme that we are keen to promote as an organisation.
“Community events like this one are a perfect way of getting people together and providing information in an informal environment.”
Bryan Pawley, secretary of the Rural Tenants’ Group, said: “The event was very well received by local residents, and we’ve had some really positive feedback from the community.
“It’s been a great opportunity to talk to people about what we do and we hope to see some new faces at our next meeting in September.”
The next meeting will be September 20 at Guilsborough Village Hall, and is open to all DDH tenants living in the rural areas. For more information please contact the Community Development Team on 01327 707500.
